I will be holding online “office hours” every Thursday from 6:00-7:00 pm. During this time, you can ask questions and I will go over course materials. You can join our online meetings by clicking on "ConferZoom" in the links on the left-hand side of our course in Canvas. You will see a new meeting that you can join every Thursday.
Course Description
English 1A will introduce you to academic reading and writing and help you develop your own academic style for future courses. The purpose of academic reading and writing is to get interested in ideas from diverse writers and diverse ways like poetry and film. Near the end of the course, you integrate the conversations from your readings and class discussions into a final paper while asserting your own ideas and responses.
Course Learning Objectives
- Write cogent, well-developed arguments that clearly articulate a thesis supported by textual evidence.
- Read critically by summarizing, analyzing, synthesizing, and evaluating college-level texts.
- Select, evaluate, interpret, and synthesize sources in the service of an argument.
- Document sources (print, electronic, and other) in MLA style.
- Use effective strategies for pre-writing, composing, and revising of essays.
